|DSCEJ Staff Members Share Their Vision|
The Deep South Center for Environmental Justice held a one-day staff retreat on Friday, June 6, 2003, at the Hampton Inn in New Orleans. This retreat is held annually to facilitate discussion, planning, and review of the Center’s goals and program objectives. The Center’s executive director, Dr. Beverly Wright, opened the meeting with a brief overview of the purpose of the retreat and was followed by staff presentations. As with previous retreats, the staff concurred that the meeting was very productive. Some of the key issues addressed were:
- where are we in terms of meeting our program objectives;
- what direction do we want to take to extend the Center’s vision beyond its current boundaries; and
- what types of grants do we need to pursue in order to achieve the Center’s mission.
The staff retreats are invaluable. It fosters team effort and communication, which is key to the Center’s success as it strives to remain viable and effective in promoting environmental justice.
